City Council elects leadership for 2023
Huntington City Councilwoman Holly Smith Mount was elected chairwoman and City Councilwoman Sarah Walling was elected vice chairwoman during City Council’s meeting Monday, Jan. 9. For Mount, it will be her second year as chairwoman of City Council. The District 6 representative was elected to the governing body in 2020. She served in 2021 as City Council’s vice chairwoman. Her district includes the Gallaher Village, Forest Hills, Southeast Hills and Enslow Park areas of Huntington. “It is an honor and a privilege to continue to serve in this capacity on City Council,” Mount said. “I look forward to 2023 and all that we can accomplish together as a council for the Jewel City, and I’m thrilled to have Ms. Walling on this journey with me.” Walling was selected by Council members to fill the unexpired term of District 4 Councilwoman Jennifer Wheeler in June 2021. The district encompasses the Southside and Harveytown. “Huntington has made significant progress under Ms. Mount’s effective, compassionate and educated leadership,” Walling said. “I appreciate the confidence and trust our fellow council members have placed in us, and I am excited to continue our momentum this year.”
