The Inspections section of the Inspections and Permits Division is staffed by three inspectors (building, electrical, and plumbing) who look at structures to make sure they are safe and comply with applicable codes. They also work with and inspect buildings for the Unsafe Buildings Commission. The Permits section issues permits for additions and repairs to houses and buildings. Because most structural work on houses requires a permit, it is best to inquire about permits before starting work.
The Inspections and Permits Office is located in Room 100 at City Hall. Inspectors are available to meet with the public between 8 and 9 a.m. and 3 and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Calling ahead to 304.696.5540 ext. 2003 or emailing the Permit Technician at estepk@huntingtonwv.gov for an appointment is recommended.
