touring Huntington
City Hall
City
Hall stretches along the southwest corner of Fifth Avenue
between Eighth and Ninth Streets and houses most of our city
offices. The Huntington Fire Department and City Police Department are located just a few blocks away. The building, designed
by Verus T. Ritter, dates back to the early part of 1915.
The exact date is not known but the contract was signed on
September 27, 1913, with an extension granted the following
year.
City Hall is home of the mayors' office and the offices of
the city councilmen. Council meetings are held on the second
and fourth Mondays of each month at 7:30 p.m. in City Council
Chambers. Our young citizens are encourgaged to attend any
of the meetings with their parent(s)/ Guardian(s) to learn
more about our city government or perhaps voice an opinion.
Being centrally located, it makes it easy
to perform errands or day to day business with the surrounding
offices, businesses, stores, and restaurants. Professional
offices (doctors, lawyers, accountants, etc.), businesses
(from "A"-auto dealerships to "Y"-youth
organizations), and restaurants (from fast food establishments
to fine dining and international cuisines) can be found with-in
easy walking distance of the "Heart" of Huntington.
