What do I need to bring for a building permit for new construction and additions?

1. Three sets of detailed construction documents and two additional sets of site plans.

2. The site plan must include the size of the lot, the size and location of all buildings, sewer and utility lines, drainage, grading details, elevations and property lines.

  1. Schematic drawings of all new electrical systems, complete rewire, and changes in location of service panels.
  2. Isometric plumbing drawings and basic floor plans for all gas, water supply, and wastewater work.
  3. Schematic mechanical drawings and vertical elevations.
  4. New construction must have the sanitary board receipt for all sanitary sewer connections.
  5. Smoke detectors per R 316.1 CABO 1995.
  6. Must provide copies of all contracts.

Residential

2. If any of the work is on City right of way, then a site plan are showing dimensions and locations to property lines must be submitted to Engineering Division for Right of Way Permit

Commercial

1. Site plan showing dimensions and locations of property lines.

2. Special Privilege and Right of Way Permits need to be secured from Engineering Division.

2. A building permit and a zoning permit are required.
3. Electric Fences are prohibited in all zones.
4. Barbed or razor fences are prohibited in all zones except industrial.

What do I need to bring for a building permit for signs?

1. Site plan showing the location of all buildings, driveways, property lines and location of proposed signs.

2. Plans showing the dimensions, materials, and the details of construction submitted to the Engineering Division.

3. Signs to be located on public right of way will require a sign permit and a special privilege permit.

4. A building permit is required.

5. Signs to be posted on a state highway must obtain a permit from the West Virginia Division of Highways.


Do I need a permit for a rummage sale?

Rummage Sale Permits: In accordance with Article 550, Section 550.3 of the Codified Ordinance of the City of Huntington, no rummage sale may be held unless a permit has been issued and no sale may extend for more than forty eight (48) consecutive hours. No more than one sale shall be allowed at any one location during any one calendar month. Permits may be obtained at no charge from the office of the Mayor.
