Historic Sound Clips: The First Radio Broadcasts of the Crash

In the pre-Web, pre-CNN days of 1970, it was often radio that spread the news on an autumn Saturday night.

In We Are Marshall, when Matthew Fox as Red Dawson stops for gas in a small southern town, he hears a broadcast of Mutual Radio's initial report of the Marshall plane crash. Here is that actual broadcast.

And then here are several followup broadcasts. A few hours later, Mutual aired this report, with quotes from officials at Marshall and Tri-State Airport -- click here to hear.

Then on the next day, Nov. 15, 1970, CBS Radio was broadcasting the following three reports over the course of the day. Click to hear: First CBS report, second CBS report, third CBS report.
